W hen it was announced in the spring of 2018 that there would be a public competition held for the position of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy, I think that many in the profession were taken aback. While there have been transitions of the individual who held the title over the years, I believe this is the first time that a public competition was held to identify the new Superintendent. The opening of the process brings great credibility to the new appointment. In this issue, we have a profile on our new Superintendent, Elisabeth Lang. Elisabeth most recently has been with the Competition Bureau, however, has a long history with the OSB. She has an excellent reputation with those that have worked with her and is very familiar with CAIRP. We have an opportunity to learn more about her and about her vision for the OSB going forward. I would like to congratulate Elisabeth on her new role and wish her success. At the CAIRP Annual Conference in August, the Honourable Darrell Stephenson participated in the Legal and Judicial Update. His comments were directed at LITs specifically and their invaluable role in the administration of the insolvency system. The comments provided good guidance for our members and we asked accordingly for permission to reproduce his comments in Rebuilding Success. As many of you are aware, the Wage Earner Protection Program Act was amended recently. Les surintendants se sont succédé au fil des ans, mais je crois que c’était la première fois que la nomination à ce poste donnait lieu à un concours public. L’ouverture du processus apporte une grande crédibilité à la nouvelle nomination. Dans le présent numéro, nous vous présentons Elisabeth Lang, nouvelle surintendante des faillites. Mme Lang, qui arrive du Bureau de la concurrence, a travaillé précédemment au BSF pendant longtemps. Elle s’est forgé une excellente réputation auprès de ceux qui l’ont côtoyée et connaît très bien l’ACPIR. Nous avons l’occasion d’en savoir plus sur elle-même et sur sa vision du BSF pour l’avenir. J’aimerais féliciter Elisabeth Lang de sa nomination et lui souhaiter beaucoup de succès dans ses nouvelles fonctions. Au cours de la Conférence annuelle de l’ACPIR tenue en août, l’honorable juge Darrell Stephenson a participé à la mise à jour jurisprudentielle. Dans sa présentation s’adressant directement aux syndics autorisés en insolvabilité (SAI), il a souligné le rôle inestimable qu’ils jouent dans l’administration du système d’insolvabilité. M. Stephenson a donné de bons conseils aux membres et c’est pourquoi nous avons demandé l’autorisation de reproduire la transcription de sa présentation dans notre magazine. Comme vous le savez sans doute, la Loi sur le Programme de protection des salariés (LPPS) a été modifiée récemment.
