A s many CAIRP members know, the Annual Review of Insolvency Law (ARIL) has become Canada’s leading inter- disciplinary forum for thought leadership in insolvency and restructuring. Indeed, as CAIRP’s former president, Bill Courage, noted in the Fall-Winter 2018 issue of Rebuilding Success, the ARIL conference has become a “must attend” professional devel- opment and networking event for insolvency and restructuring professionals across Canada. As readers of Rebuilding Success know, stewardship of ARIL’s mission had been led for over 15 years by Dr. Janis Sarra, with significant support from a diverse Editorial Board composed of senior judges, Licensed Insolvency Trustees, lawyers and academics from across Canada. ARIL also had on-going administrative support from the UBC Faculty of Law and benefited from sustaining sponsorship by numerous professional services firms such as CAIRP, and more recently, the Insolvency Institute of Canada (IIC). Last February, Dr. Sarra asked ARIL’s Editorial Board to consider how to make a transition from her leadership and UBC Law’s administrative support to new leadership and support in both editorial and organizational functions. A Transition Committee of members of the Editorial Board was struck and ARIL’s renewal commenced in earnest. Early stage focus was placed on renewing ARIL’s editorial function. A staged exit for a number of long serving members provided opportunities for new and diverse members of the Opportunities in Transition: Renewal of the Annual Review of Insolvency Law By Jean-Daniel Breton, FCIRP, LIT and Edward A.
