HONOURS AND AWARDS profession through their leadership and achievements in their personal and professional lives. The New Member’s Award of Merit promotes CAIRP’s future leaders by encouraging newer members of the profession to demonstrate standards of best practice, excellence, integrity, innovation, and dedication. Candidates should clearly demonstrate their commitment to CAIRP’s core values and promote members as the “Go-to Professionals” for expertise, information and solutions regarding insolvency and restructuring. A New Member Award of Merit was not awarded in 2018. KEITH G. COLLINS MEMORIAL AWARD Keith was a founding member of the association and, from 1980 to 1981, served as its second President, now called Chair. Keith passed away in 2006 at the age of 71. He was respected within the profession – a profession he loved – and within the community for his integrity, courtesy, collegiality and commitment. He was honoured with a Fellow from both CAIRP and the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Manitoba. In 2007, CAIRP created the Keith G. Collins Memorial Award which recognized Keith as a role model who others in the profession, or aspiring to join the profession, should follow. The recipient of this award is to exhibit the following characteristics: • Integrity; • Courtesy; • Professionalism; • Respected by their peers and respectful of others; and • Unpretentious, committed to the profession and willing to share knowledge. Laura Ryback was the recipient of the Keith G. Collins Memorial Award in 2018. Laura can always be counted on to do the right thing. She is well liked by all members of the Winnipeg insolvency community and has always demonstrated great professionalism and courtesy. She is one to seek consensus and take into account the input of others in a respectful way. She is always willing to share her knowledge and, if a trustee from a competing firm calls her to ask “Have you ever run into…”, if she doesn’t have the answer, she tries to find it. When she discovers practices of creditors or others that she finds to be significant, she shares what she has discovered with the insolvency community. Laura’s contributions to the insolvency profession include being the driving force behind the MAIRP initiative to develop a brochure that can be used by all members to promote LITs as the “Go- to professionals.” THE FELLOWSHIP AWARD The Fellowship is the highest honour awarded by CAIRP. The Honours and Awards Nominating Committee carefully reviews each Fellowship nomination application it receives and then makes its recommendations to the CAIRP Board. The Board must then consider and approve nominations put forward by the HANC Board. To be deserving of a Fellow, the nominee should exhibit the following characteristics: • Given distinguished service to CAIRP throughout their career; • Brought distinction to the insolvency profession; • Promoted the CIRP designation; and • Significantly contributed to the advancement of Canada’s insolvency profession Rob Hunt was the recipient of the Fellowship Award in 2018. The list of Rob’s impressive contributions is long. He served on the NSAIRP Board, the CAIRP Board, the Strategic Planning Committee, was a member and then Chair of the Continuing Education Committee, and Chair of the Continuing Education Oversight Committee. He has been involved in the marking centre, has Chaired Forums and Annual Conferences and most recently, Chaired the outstanding 2018 Annual Conference.
