AUTOMNE/HIVER 2018 COUVERTURES CANADA 51 NOUVELLES DES ASSOCIATIONS PROVINCIALES Roofing Contractors Association of British Columbia T his past August marked RCABC’s 60th anniversary of leadership in the roofing industry, and the association has various events planned in the year ahead to honour this milestone. They include the annual RCABC golf tourna- ment at the Northview Golf and Country Club and the White Diamond 60th Roofers Reindeer Rampage Christmas party. Also significant, RCABC became a Supporting Partner to the Vancouver Regional Construction Association’s Zero Energy Building initiative, funded by the City of Vancouver. In June the association attended the kickoff event for ZEBx – the industry exchange supporting ideas and best practices for zero energy building construction. RCABC also hosted a four-day meeting in Vancouver to review the CRCA Reference Manual, with recommendations forwarded to CRCA. The manual is used as a guide for apprenticeship training across the country. On a sadder note, RCABC was shocked to learn of the passing of long-time instructor David Rice last May, after a short battle with cancer. To honour the avid golfer, the David Memorial Hole in One contest has become part of the association’s annual tournament. Les pensées de la RCABC sont avec l’épouse, la famille et les amis de David. www.rcabc.org Alberta Roofing Contractors Association T his year, ARCA was pleased to provide its roof to the National Research Council for a research project that aims to understand the differential of temperatures in the systems. Monitors and sensors were installed in August and infor- mation is currently being transmitted weekly. ARCA was also proud to grant the Accredited Roofer of Alberta (ARA) designation to 11 worthy recipients and already has a full class of roofers registered to complete their CRA designation in the coming year. Its manufacturer members are excited to once again participate in Rooferama, South Zone in November (90 per cent sold out) and a second session will be held in the North Zone in February. The organization’s warranty program continues to enjoy support, and a new mandatory continuous review, called Contractor Gauge, has been well received by key warranty clients. As well, ARCA recently introduced a field review for independent inspectors in advance of their acceptance as ARCA inspectors – also widely supported.
