This aspect alone would be a challenging geometry to construct. But the building’s footprint keeps getting bigger as it goes up, so there’s lots of complicated engineering that must be respected and worked with.” “Another very obvious challenge,” notes Schmalz, “is a visible vault on the main floor that stretches into the basement and up to the underside of the third floor. Much like the building’s façade, the vault’s shape involves a series of curves and radii interwoven into a completely indefinable curved structure.” Schmalz describes the construction as a mix of steel frame as well as aluminum and glass, similar to what would go into a curtain wall system for a glass building one would typically see downtown. “In this case, however, the glass curves all over the place, and I’ve never seen a concept quite like it.
