ÉPREUVES D’HABILETÉS
Covering the field
The HVACR Skills Competition is 
organized by HRAI’s Technical Skills 
Committee. Over the course of three 
days, it tests different groups of students 
on their hands-on technical expertise 
across several disciplines.
Day one welcomed high school 
students to compete in setting up a 
furnace and replacing a gas valve. 
Students also completed a mock job 
interview, giving them a chance to 
develop soft skills alongside their tech-
nical abilities.
“These students are very engaged in 
what they’re doing,” said Larry Smith, 
event volunteer. “They’re working 
through the same processes they’ve 
learned in school, but now we’re testing 
those skills and adding the interview 
portion to help them prepare for 
entering the workforce.”
The second day opened the floor to 
post-secondary competitors. Twenty 
students took part in a four-hour 
competition that combined the practical 
installation of a tankless water heater 
with a practice job interview. 
Couvrant le terrain
Le concours d’habiletés en CVCR est 
organisé par le Comité des compétences 
techniques de l’ICCRC. Pendant trois 
jours, il évalue différents groupes  
d’étudiants sur leur expertise  
technique pratique.
Le premier jour, des élèves du secon-
daire se sont affrontés sur l’installation 
d’une fournaise et le remplacement d’une 
vanne de gaz. Ils ont aussi pris part à une 
simulation d’entrevue d’embauche.
« Ces étudiants sont très impliqués », a 
déclaré Larry Smith, bénévole de l’événe-
ment. « Ils suivent les mêmes procédures 
qu’ils ont apprises à l’école, mais mainte-
nant, nous évaluons ces compétences et 
nous ajoutons la partie entrevue pour les 
aider à se préparer au marché du travail. »
Le deuxième jour a été celui  
des concurrents postsecondaires.  
Vingt étudiants se sont affrontés 
lors d’une épreuve de quatre heures, 
combinant l’installation pratique d’un 
chauffe-eau sans réservoir et une  
simulation d’entrevue. 
« J’avais déjà de l’expérience avec les 
systèmes sans réservoir, mais pas avec
