His newly released book, Moon of the Crusted Snow, is anticipated to exceed all expectations. This apoca- lyptic tale details a small community in northern Canada that has been cut off from all communica- tion. The novel follows Evan Whitesky’s journey to restore order within their community as visitors begin to turn to the community for their help during the treacherous winter season. Rice tells a story of technology dependence, survival and how turning to the land and traditional Anishinaabe way of life will help bring families together, while serving as an allegory for colonialism. Indigenous Reads to Pick up This Winter RoyalCanadianGeographical Society:IndigenousPeoples AtlasofCanada The Royal Canadian Geographical Society, in partnership with Canada’s national Indigenous organizations, has released a groundbreaking four- volume atlas that shares experiences, perspectives and histories of First Nations, Metis and Inuit peoples of Canada. This project was inspired by the Truth and Reconciliation Commission – Calls to Action, and after two years, this atlas hit the shelves in September 2018. This four-volume comprehensive atlas is described as an important educational tool for future generations as it provides the tools to understand the complexity of Indigenous peoples in Canada, such as an online interactive atlas and additional tools for education on language, land and culture.
