UNCEDED TERRITORY and Be A Part Of Our Future Wikwemikong Development Commission Enaadmaagehjik, operating as the Wikwemikong Development Commission (WDC), is a non-profit corporation that operates as the economic development branch of Wiikwemkoong. Enaadmaagehjik means “people helping people,” an apt description of the role that the organization plays in the community. Founded in 1973, the WDC has helped many community members to establish and expand their businesses through WDC loan and grant programming. The Commission has also made strategic investments and initiated several Wiikwemkoong-owned businesses, including Rainbow Ridge Golf Course, FirstTel Communications, leased properties (6 buildings with a total of 40,000 sq. feet of commercial space), Your Dollar Store With More franchise, and 1981 kW of roof-top solar projects in southern Ontario under the limited partnership with Solar Provider Group. In addition to its business development responsibilities, WDC is mandated to develop human resources within the community. Through the Wii-ni n’guch-tood LMS, it delivers human resources and skills training and employment supports to community members and employers. WDC/WLMS also plans and implements training and education programs, including apprenticeship programs, to meet local labour market needs. The WDC can assist potential investors with business planning, provide introductions to Wiikwemkoong leadership, facilitate business partnerships, help with employee recruitment, and provide access to employee training programs, business permits and commercial property leases.
