MVB: The industry needs to attract a motivated and talented workforce since we may be facing a significant shortfall of workers soon. We need people who are tech-savvy and comfortable working more collaboratively as clients seek to change the model to have joint accountability with everyone involved in the design, build and maintenance. The more we can increase the talent pool by making construction work accessible and attractive to women, youth, Indigenous and new Canadians, the better off we will be. I read recently that women tend to apply for positions when they know a woman has held the role before. It is a great privilege to pave the way for others. U: What keeps you inspired? MVB: There is nothing more satisfying than seeing my staff blossom professionally. Empowering my staff to do their absolute best for our members and seeing the impact on our members is what motivates me. U: When you are not working what do you like to do for fun? MVB: My passion is the outdoors, travelling and spending time with my family. I’m also very committed to giving back to the community and currently am president of the Camp Fortune Ski Club, which is the capital region’s largest ski racing club. U: Do you visit Winnipeg often? And if so, what’s one must-visit locale when you’re in town? MVB: My dad was born in Winnipeg and I have travelled there on business many times. I was there most recently in June. I absolutely love the Journey to Churchill Exhibit at the Assiniboine Park Zoo. I also ate at a fantastic restaurant called Deer + Almond. U: What’s one Manitoba attraction on your bucket list? MVB: Seeing Manitoba’s North. U: What’s been the best concert that you attended? MVB: I saw Train last November and they surpassed my expectations – they really connected with the crowd. Red Hot Chili Peppers would be my favourite though. U2 in Ireland is on my bucket list. 67 DonValley Parkway Winnipeg, MB R2C 2Z2 info@djnservices.com 67 DonValley Parkway Winnipeg, MB R2C 2Z2 Office: 204-222-3676 info@djnservices.com www.djnservices.com 67 Don Valley Parkway Winnipeg, MB R2C 2Z2 Office: 204-222-3676 info@djnservices.com www.djnservices.com
