having a package containing top tech- nologies designed by people who have been creating treatment packages for decades, that helped seal the deal with our first few clients,” says Lubitz. Next up, Interpump plans to explore similar solutions for greywater and blackwater treatment. It also intends to continue raising awareness for Net Zero Water and is proud to see Net Zero Water making a differ- ence already. “It is difficult in North America to go completely ‘net zero,’ however with the technologies that the Interpump team has researched and implemented in their designs on various projects, we are getting closer to the goal of Net Zero Water with each passing project,” says Lubitz. THIRDPLACE:DD-WMS100WATER MANAGEMENTSYSTEM Hilti (Canada) Corporation Accessing a clean and consistent source of water for diamond coring operations is a familiar challenge on the jobsite. After years of watching its clients take time-consuming measures to get the job done, Hilti Canada knew there had to be a better way. “There were several issues our clients faced delivering pressurized water to a remote location on a jobsite, such as capturing water, slurry, and the mess while diamond coring a hole and then the cleanup required afterward,” notes David Walker, Hilti diamond business unit manager. “We worked backward from theseissuestodeviseabettersolution.” That solution is the DD-WMS 100 Water Management System, which Hilti developed to facilitate a faster, cleaner and safer drilling process. The device recycles water up to seven times to provide 100 litres of continuous water supply. “Existingmethodsrequireverymanual processes, whetherthat’sdeliveringwater in a bucket, pressurizing a water tank by hand pump, or using mops, brooms, rags and additional labour to control the mess and slurry,“ Walker explains. “We wanted to find a solution that eliminates the need for these manual processes through a single solution.” The DD-WMS 100 is also designed to capture and control the typical ‘mess’ associated with diamond coring. It was developed for portability and outfitted with an advanced filter and filter bags that makes it easy for users to collect and dispose of slurry waste during the clean-up phase. Additionally, Hilti’s comprehensiveexperiencewithvacuum collection solutions inspired the design for a more contractor-friendly water collection system that readily works with any core rig from any manufacturer. “Our whole objective with this device was to provide a pressurized water source that could easily be maneu- vered anywhere needed on a jobsite or construction project and then provide a water source for up to an entire day while diamond coring, all the while capturing and controlling the ‘mess’ and recycling the water used,” Walker explains. Since its introduction, the DD-WMS 100 has been adopted on jobsites around the globe. Hilti reports that thousands of companies use the WMS 100 in Germany and France alone for their diamond drilling operations. Now that the product is available in Canada, Hilti is confident the innovative system will see similar success in its own backyard. |BD TCA INNOVATIVE PRODUCT AWARDS 24 | Builders' Digest Quarter 4 2017
