DESIGN-BUILD GENERAL CONTRACTING CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT 36 YORK MILLS RD, SUITE 302 | TORONTO, ON 416.849.9000 | WWW.WALSHGROUP.COM TTC Pioneer Village Subway Station - Toronto, ON Tiffany Moreside, digital marketing coordinator for Informa Exhibitions, which runs the event, says she noticed a rise in active engagement among exhibitors and attendees. “I was monitoring the traffic on social media during the show, and over the last few years I’ve noticed there’s been a lot more engagement not only with exhibitors but also with the atten- dees. The response has been overwhelmingly positive in terms of what they were seeing and the types of products the exhib- itors were launching.” As in past years, Construct Canada was set up in the Conven- tion Centre’s South Building. Besides taking up a good chunk of square footage on the trade show floor, the event also offered a wide range of educational programming and networking opportunities, from the first day’s Ask the Experts breakfast, which covered challenges relating to production, construction, repair, and maintenance on concrete projects, through the second day’s CEO panel on lien reform (see separate article on page 14) to the signature TCA Christmas Luncheon on the final day of the show. As always, attendees were able to benefit from a broad range of activities and seminars in related fields thanks to the pres- ence of the other shows that are part of TBS: World of Concrete Pavilion, HomeBuilder & Reno Expo, PM (Project Manage- ment) Expo and IIDEX Canada (interior design). CHANGESAHEAD That roster is about to change. Nancy Milani, Informa’s vice president, Trade Expositions, told Builders’ Digest that show space has reached capacity, leaving little room for expansion and restricting the space available for the kinds of interactive displays and demos that generate the most buzz on a trade show floor. Accordingly, Informa is making some big changes in time for the 2019 version of TBS. IIDEX Canada, the interior design trade expo, which took place this year in the North Building, is going to be leaving the TBS stable to join Informa’s interior design group as IDS Contract in 2019. That will open up space for Construct Canada and the other events to expand, Builders' Digest Quarter 4 2017 | 11
