These materials were provided to 
ensure that students, teachers and 
chaperones were fully prepared and 
aware of expectations.
Student Engagement Activities
The finalized agenda included 
accommodation details and a schedule 
of the Education and Health Career 
Fair and science workshops, which 
all students were required to attend. 
Students were issued a “passport” 
containing the logos of participating 
organizations. Passports were stamped 
or signed to confirm that students 
visited required booths.

At the March 2026 science fair, a 
total of 53 projects were registered, 
involving 95 students.
Student Advancement and  
Future Opportunities
Canada-Wide Science Fair (CWSF)
Based on project evaluations and 
scoring at the FSIN First Nations 
Science Fair, up to four students are 
selected annually to represent FSIN 
at the Canada-Wide Science Fair, 
hosted by Youth Science Canada. 
Participation at the national level 
provides opportunities to compete 
for scholarships and prizes 
with an average total value of 
approximately $11,000. 
The 2026 Canada-Wide Science 
Fair was held at the Edmonton 
EXPO Centre in Edmonton, Alta., 
from May 23-30, 2026. At the 2026 
FSIN First Nations Science Fair, 
two projects achieving first place 
in their respective categories and 
the highest overall scores were 
selected to attend the Canada-Wide 
Science Fair:
•	 Two students from Chief 
Poundmaker School with the 
project First Nation Fasting.
•	 One student from Peepeekisis 
Pesakastew School with the 
project Clean Water Matters: 
Simple Filtration, Big Impact.
National Science Camp (NSC)
Five students aged 12-15 who 
attend school on reserve are 
selected from the FSIN First 
Nations Science Fair to attend the 
National Science Camp, a two-
week program hosted by a regional 
organization in partnership with 
Indigenous Services Canada. The 
location and dates for the 2026 
National Science Camp had not 
yet been announced at the time 
of reporting.
International Science Fairs
Students who excel at the Canada-
Wide Science Fair may qualify to 
advance to international science 
fair competitions.
Funding Considerations
Indigenous Services Canada 
provides partial funding to support 
student participation; however, this 
funding is restricted to students 
who live and attend schools on 
reserve. Approximately 40 per 
cent of participating First Nation 
students reside in urban centres and 
are therefore not eligible for this 
funding. To ensure the inclusion 
of urban First Nation students, 
FSIN relies on sponsorships 
and funding from additional 
partner organizations.
