THE SPIRIT GARDEN
A place for teaching, learning, sharing and healing
D.J. Shub - Listening/CD Launch Event
Interior Teaching Lodge - Seating 60
Nathan Phillips Square – 100 Queen Street East Toronto
Officially opened on September 30, 2024, the Spirit Garden is a living legacy honouring
former residential school students, their families, communities, and the children who never
made it home. It represents the culmination of a seven-year initiative led by Toronto Council
Fire in partnership with the City of Toronto, with financial support from the
Province of Ontario, the Government of Canada, and multi-faith organizations.
At the heart of the Spirit Garden is the Turtle, “Our First Mother,” visually depicting the
journey of past struggles and holding her head high to give voice through language, song,
and culture. The teaching lodge, an Anishinaabe learning space, offers a unique setting
enriched by drumming and dance, sharing circles, and cultural teaching.
Connect with us to create a memorable cultural experience for your delegates, board
members, and staff. Whether you are hosting a conference, trade event, or corporate
gathering in Tkaronto, the Spirit Garden offers a unique setting enriched by Nation-led
drumming and dance, Knowledge Keeper-led workshops, traditional feasts, and specialized
programming with live broadcast capabilities.
