20 l ROOFINGBC l SPRING 2019 MEMBER PROFILE M ark Notte was hired by Interior Roofing in 1986. Mark was a sheet metal journeyman six years into his career when he joined the Penticton busi- ness that served the Okanagan area of B.C. The company was established in 1976 and provided a good opportu- nity for Mark to build his skills in the sheet metal industry. In 2001, the original owner of Interior, Cy Gladish, retired and sold the business to two of his employees who ran the company until 2011. These owners then decided to retire and after 25 years with Interior, Mark and his family purchased the business. Since then, the Notte’s have grown the business into a company that now serves customers throughout the province. Truly family run, Mark’s wife Jo-Ann is Vice President of the company and their son Aaron is the General Manager. Interior Roofing provides a wide range of services to its customers. These services include commercial and residential roofing, repairs and inspections, custom siding, as well as clad- ding and building envelope work. As Mark Notte explains, “We service customers right up to the Alberta border and have done work in the Yukon. Owners of businesses and homes are viewing metal roofs and siding as smart choices for the longevity of their buildings and as fire retardant materials that could help them prevent their property from potential destruction in future fires. “The Okanagan valley is the ‘California’ of Canada from a weather standpoint and annually attracts a large number of people who are retiring or looking for a change in lifestyle. These new residents are building large custom homes in and around Lake Okanagan and businesses are growing to meet the demands of the increasing population,” says Jo-Ann Notte. She went on to explain that these owners want their homes to have the “best of everything,” including attractive roofs and siding that also provide a level of fire protection. This approach applies to the business community as well. Since taking over Interior in 2011, the number of employees has grown from 20 to more than 50. The growth and success of
