Troy Pariag Message from the Chair Message du président du Conseil M astering mobility in a world of disrup- tion was the theme of CERC’s successful 2018 Conference in Montreal. Disruption in mobility, and the world at large, has become the new normal. This is exactly why I’m delighted to be taking on the role of CERC chair. It’s an exciting time, and I believe CERC is well positioned to meet and even thrive on the change and disruption that lies ahead. In January 2011, a VP at IBM asked me to take on a “three-month” project: to fix a key but broken mobility program for engaging highly skilled employees from our global offices. Like other organ- izations employing temporary foreign workers in Canada at the time, we were also impacted by the implementation of the 2010 Prevailing Wage and National Occupation Classification (NOC) legisla- tion. The disruption to our clients and business operations was significant. Fortunately, I found CERC. I met with Steve Cryne who helped me to connect with other CERC members. I was able to draw upon a wealth of expertise, which proved invaluable in updating the IBM mobility program. The innovation and creativity we achieved with our solu- tion was due in large part to the know- ledge and willingness of CERC members to openly share their expertise. My three-month project is now in its eighth year as I try to stay on top of ongoing internal and external changes impacting our global mobility model.
