pedestrian experience? (featured on page 26). These questions and more present our theme for this issue of Access Canada: tools of adaptation. With this new political and ministerial landscape, we have been actively strengthening relationships with the IHSA, Ministry of Labour and other industry partners. Read more about it on page 10. The SIAC had the opportunity to meet with Ron Kelusky, Ontario’s new Chief Prevention Officer, who understands the importance of maintaining health and safety in construction. Brian Barron, the Ministry of Labour’s Construction Health and Safety Provincial Coordinator, has left his position and MOL has brought on an acting Provincial Coordinator. The SIAC looks forward to welcoming a permanent replacement and establishing a strong relationship with them. We have also continued discussions with the IHSA on a committee to address emerging issues in the scaffold and access industry. Changes in the construction industry reflect changes in the Canadian economy as a whole. Creating an industry and job market that adapts to the way our society progresses is how construction stays relevant and innovative. Rather than becoming stagnant, SIAC encourages its members to use our resources to predict how changes in government affect their workers, try new techniques on the front line, and be open to methods to advance and improve our industry. My hope is that this issue of Access Canada offers members insights on how to adapt to legislative and technological changes and that we are able to collectively develop a more innovative, forward-looking industry. If you have a tool of adaptation you feel other members may benefit from, please let us know by reaching out to info@siac-ontario.com. To hear the latest news and learn of SIAC’s upcoming events, be sure to follow SIAC’s website and e-newsletter.
