It’s no surprise that smartphones and other mobile devices are becoming common on jobsites. Their ability to connect teams, collect information and share critical data make them invaluable tools, and the wealth of apps and cloud-based services supporting them are increasing by the day. Simply put, says John Chabluk, founder and CEO of QuoteToMe, “Jobsites are being run ‘smarter’ by utilizing emerging technology. (By) using smartphones, communication is more free-flowing. By communicating more effectively, project information is easily shared throughout jobsite teams.” TOOLS OF ADAPTATION The industry is evolving. Competition is mounting and projects are becoming more complex. Staying ahead means adapting to new ideas and innovations – and for Canadian firms, there are many to consider. “We are a burgeoning industry facing real growth in Canada, and we must leverage what we know through the applied use of systems that allow us to accomplish more with our resources,” says John Bockstael, Canadian Construction Innovations (CCI) Chair. “Embracing technology and pursuing innovation in the construction industry will impact the lives of millions of people with the advantages it brings.” 5 SMARTPHONES/ MOBILE TECH This article was originally published in the Summer 2018 issue of Build Manitoba, and is reprinted with permission from the Winnipeg Construction Association.
