b"FROM OUR CHAIRStaying vigilant to stay safeIts certainly been an interesting summer in Manitoba. In early March we were introduced to the COVID-19 pandemic, and the construction industry quickly scrambled to figure out how we would continue to operate during the crisis. Our industry rose to the challenge. Organizations including the Construction Safety Association of Manitoba and the Canadian Construction Association came up with guidelines on how to perform construction work while keeping to the fundamentals. We learned to keep our distance on sites, started washing our hands more frequently than ever before, stopped going in to work when we werent feeling well and adjusted our day-to-day activities to follow provincial health guidelines and best practices. For most of June and July, the outlook in our province was better than across most of the country, and the world, for that matter. Manitoba appeared to have flattened the curve, and things started returning to normal. As Im sure youre aware, in August our COVID numbers began to creep back up. While its certainly not time to panic, we should take these new cases as a reminder of what made our industry successful in the first place. We need to keep following social distance protocols. We have to continue washing our hands. And if were feeling sick, no matter how important that days job is, we should be staying home and encouraging our staff to do the same.On top of those everyday fundamentals, there are plenty of actions construction sites can take to limit the spread of COVID-19. I encourage you to check them out if you havent seen them before or visit CSAM's website at constructionsafety.ca for a refresher.Construction is an essential service, and our work will continue as our province and country continues to fight this virus. Lets do our part as an industry to flatten the curve and beat this thing. Stay vigilant, stay safe, and we can stay working to build the fantastic projects Manitobans want and need.John Enns, ChairIssue 3 Fall Edition 2020 BUILD MANITOBA 7"
