Our mission is to give our members the training, technical support and leadership to enable them to offer their customers the highest quality roofing practices, guarantees and busi- ness ethics in the roofing and related industries in B.C. their new credentials this past December and we are excited to recognize many more people in the coming months. To be recognized as a Master Roofer, the applicant must be able to document his or her career and training. Applicants must have worked in the trade for an RCABC member company for at least 18,000 hours. This can usually be accom- plished in 10-12 years. Applicants must be certified in the roofing trade (from any jurisdiction) and also be able to show evidence of further training they have taken. This training can be anything related to the trade other than those certifications that are mandatory to work in the trade (i.e. Fall Protection, WHMIS, Torch safety, etc.) So any long or short training program offered by roofing suppliers can apply to this requirement. The applicant must have achieved 30 Educational Credit Units (ECUs) to meet this require- ment. (A half-day program is worth two ECUs and a full day program is worth five ECUs.) If you are unsure if your programs meet the ECU definition, please contact Dave Coleman, Director of Education and Training at RCABC. Applicants must also provide letters of endorsement from two inspectors who are familiar with their work in the field and can attest to the applicant’s knowledge and skill. If this sounds like you, contact Nadja Mak at 604-882-3437 or Dave Coleman at 604-882-3434 to get an application package. (An application fee of $150 is required for the application.)
