b'OSWCA EXECUTIVE DIRECTORS MESSAGEPROACTIVE,NOT REACTIVE GIOVANNI CAUTILLO, D uring the Annual Conference, OSWCA held our first Industry Rant session. EXECUTIVE DIRECTORParticipants spoke from their heart about how they view our industrys chal-lenges and opportunitieswhat they feel is working well for our sector, and equally where they think its really necessary for us to work together to make positive changes to help our businesses. The Industry Rant was unedited. It was uninterrupted. It really spoke to the crowd and resonated with all our attendees, because all the issues that were discussed were concerns our industry deals with daily. These include bad design, problems with plans and specifications and, of course, late locates. At the same time, participants spoke of the success of OSWCAs advocacy work and provided suggestions for ways OSWCA can further advance our sector and companies. The Industry Rant demonstrated that, as far as we have come as an industry, we have a lot left to go. That unfortunately, our job is never ending. There will never be a finish line because the goalpost keeps moving. When I spoke with attendees after the Industry Rant, I found there was a recurring themethe need to speak with all levels of government, whatever the issue, with a unified voice. One of the values that OSWCA brings to the table, in any discussion, is a clear vision of what our industry needs to thrive, now and in the future. The Industry Rant was invaluable in helping OSWCA continue our work on behalf of our members. Because we want to be proactive, not reactive. We want to make sure that our members are always in the public eye. Also, that all government institutions know exactly who we are and what we stand for as an Association and as an industry. At OSWCA, we want to know about all the issues that you want us to address on your behalf. Through an Industry Rant. Through constant communication back to our staff and our Board of Directors. Whether through emails, telephone calls or in person, we want to hear from you. It doesnt matter how small you think the issue may be because you may find in speaking with us that you are not the only company dealing with the issue.6 H 2 OSWCAWinter/Spring 2020'
