Its about taking corrective actions when someone makes a mistake so they can learn and move on. Its also understanding that your workers are people; they have a life, their own problems and they learn at different paces. You need to take the time to understand your people, give them a chance to do better, re-educate them when they need it, and help them grow. When you show that level of respect, they begin to respect the company and become more motivated to do better and encourage their peers to do the same.Q:What safety approaches have made a difference in your company?A:Again, its just been listening to our people. Thats everyone from the guys in the field to the supervisors. We have quarterly meetings with all our foremen where we share our experiences, talk about how we solved different problems and commu-nicate issues. It gets everyone on the same page. One thing I always say is that lack of communication is the number one killer. Accidents happen when people go around saying I didnt know, I didnt hear about that, or I heard this from someone else, so it must be true.
