The company’s residences include everything from personal training TAPPING INTO THE SHARING ECONOMY When it comes to the sharing economy, many corporate housing providers are likely to pull out their punching gloves. But some, like Javier Cepeda, regional VP of sales at LEVEL Furnished Living, is far less circumspect in his attitude when it comes to services that can enhance a temporary accommodation’s offering. Rather than fighting the trend outright, Cepeda says that some sharing-economy businesses – like Uber and local food- delivery services – make natural partners for accommodation providers and can add to the overall guest experience. “The sharing economy could be trans- lated into one word: convenience,” he notes. “We try to facilitate all processes for our guests and clients [and] minimize any clerical pain points…. We [view] the large players in this sharing economy as our allies instead of seeing them as competitors.” However one feels about the trend, Cepeda urges providers not to make the mistake of viewing the sharing economy as a temporary phenomenon. “This concept has increased in popularity, not only in Canada and the rest of North America, but worldwide,” he says, “[It’s] the number-one topic in our industry these days.” And it’s here to stay. and grocery delivery, to hot tub, gym and yoga room. “We want to ensure [guests] are taken care of and truly feel like they’re at home 24/7,” says Rooke. Similarly, Toronto Luxury Suites looks for locations in prime urban neighbourhoods. “We give preference to suites that are of the highest of standards in energetic, prominent neighbourhoods and pay close attention to the details of the interior spaces,” says Rooke. One of the company’s residences in Toronto, for example, is a downtown sub- penthouse in an elegant 50-storey building in the city’s business district, close to its convention centre and cultural life. The take-away from all this? The mobile employee wants more out of their short- term accommodation than ever before, but their demands are not about champagne and caviar. Instead, they want to stay in an interesting neighbourhood and find a well-stocked fridge in their suite when they arrive. And providers are listening.
