10 l ROOFINGBC l FALL 2018 RCABC UPDATE BRYAN WALLNER Chief Executive Officer, RCABC A s summer winds down our focus at RCABC turns to the upcoming Annual General Meeting and Roofers Reindeer Rampage Christmas celebration. The event this year is at the JW Marriott Parq Vancouver where RCABC will celebrate its 60th anniversary. Sixty years of quality in the roofing industry; quality companies, products, programs and most importantly, quality people that had the vision to set up RCABC to be the industry leader and go-to resource for all things roofing. Dedicated contractors were joined by associate members and approved consultants and together have grown this association from the second floor on Dawson Street in Burnaby to what it is today. It wasn’t always easy, but RCABC members came together for the good of the industry. Every day we are reminded of those that came before us by their photos in the Board room and the stories that they bring to mind. The staff, Board of Directors and the many committee members that dedicate their time to RCABC continue building on the past while looking to the future. The 2018 general local election cycle saw two municipal leaders in B.C. elected by margins of two and 21 votes. Clearly, every vote counts and the political stakes for the construction industry have never been higher. This year we have seen major projects cancelled, a new B.C. Procurement Strategy and the recently announced Community Benefits Agreement (see www.bccassn.com for more info), all of which impact our industry. Your opportunity to vote is not over! Beginning October 22, registered voters will receive ballots to vote on whether to change the province’s voting system to proportional representation from the tradi- tional first-past-the-post system. This will be the third attempt to change the way government is formed in British Columbia since 2005. If you haven’t received your voting package, contact Elections B.C. right away. The voting deadline is November 30, 2018. 60 YEARS YOUNG And remember to vote – every ballot counts!
