At the time, the training was being offered sporadically at other facil- ities and the RCABC Board felt that we could do a much better job and take full responsibility of the program. In 1994 we started delivering the three levels of training for commercial roofing apprentices and had our first graduating class in the fall of 1995, in a partnership with the provincial govern- ment. Since then we have trained over 4,000 apprentices in the Roofer, Damp and Waterproofer (RDW) trade and have expanded the trades training that we offer. Now we deliver training for the province in three levels of Architectural Sheet Metal (ASM) and one level of Residential Steep Roofer (RSR). The partnership has changed with a variety of ministries but for the past 14 years we have worked with the Industry Training Authority (ITA) to ensure that our apprentices are getting the best possible training available anywhere in the world. As private training providers, we are required to undergo an ITA evalu- ation every five years that looks at our programs, facilities, instructors, manage- ment supports and how they are all aligned to the provincial program outline for each of the trades. The ITA represen- tative, and an assigned subject matter expert, visit the school while classes are in session and take time to interview instructors and apprentices to determine how the program is being delivered effec- tively and get a sense of the apprentices’ experience at RCABC. They also compare the provincial program outline to the class outlines being delivered by the instructors and look at our classroom and shop facil- ities to ensure that we are meeting the terms of our contract and the relationship that we have with them. The process allows for some areas to be less than perfect and will often provide direction to address any deficiencies in the program. The grades are: 0 – Meets none of the ITA Program Standards Specification 1 – Meets some of the ITA Program Standards Specification - Requires Major corrective action and re-application 2 – Meets most of the ITA Program Standards Specification - Requires minor corrective action and review of conformance 3 – Meets all of the ITA Program Standards Specification -Receives ITA Designation There are 11 categories that are eval- uated with this scoring system and we are pleased to announce that once again, the RCABC Educational Foundation has received a 3 in all categories. With the completion of the RDW review, we have now completed the designation review for all three or our trades with perfect scores. Along with the government part- nership, many roofing manufacturers come into the classroom and teach the apprentices about their products, the most common deficiencies they find in the field and also give some insights into the newest products and installation tech- niques. This ensures that our apprentices are getting the most current information in the best facilities available. We continue to offer excellent training and we are excited to grow and develop along with the trades. Trainees can be comfortable knowing that we are investing in our future by training the best and helping people achieve their goals in the industry. RCABC EDUCATIONAL FOUNDATION RECEIVES A PERFECT SCORE As it continues to grow with the trades
