www.ecao.org 8 A FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR, GRAEME AITKEN As Mark alluded to in his message, our 2018 Conference was an outstanding success in numerous ways. I was particularly pleased by the community building that occurred in Barcelona. Although I have not been to a great number of ECAO conferences, the sense of belonging, shared goals, and friendship at this event was palpable. I want to thank each of our delegates and their companions who joined us in Spain for embracing the idea of building our community with such fervor. It is my view that continuing this important work will be much easier with this experience as our starting point. Another manner in which ECAO is attempting to alter the way in which we conduct business and build our community is through our increased participation in, and visibility on, social media. From very little presence mere months ago, ECAO can now be seen with regular postings on Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn. In order to continue to raise awareness of ECAO, our members and partners, it is important that our readers read, comment, like, and resend our postings. Today’s association, and to a certain extent, business environments, are electronic-based. To ensure that those who should know about ECAO, our members, and partners, do; it is crucial for all of us to have an online presence. Therefore, I am asking all of you to follow ECAO on Twitter at ECAOntario, on Facebook at ECAOntario, on LinkedIn at ECAOntario, and visit our website, www.ecao.org, regularly. Comment, respond, retweet, repost, read, and participate! Our challenge to you, our community, is to increase our followers two-fold by the end of 2018. That is, we want an engaged and interactive group to demonstrate to our potential clients, owners, and government that the ECAO community is a force in the construction industry; a force that is ready to take the next step. Once again, we are looking for a 100 per cent increase in followers over the next few months. It is likely that the vast majority of readers of this article are already on one or more of these social media sites. Simply add ECAOntario. And, with respect to being more interactive, this forum is another opportunity for your voices to be heard and stories to be told. In a recent article we ran a story on the upgrades in BIM technology. Unfortunately we were not aware of one of our ECAO members having a big role in a project discussed in the article. For that we apologize, and we hope to make up for that oversight in the next issue of the magazine. More importantly, though, this oversight made clear the need for greater member contributions to The Ontario Electrical Contractor. If you have a unique project, ground-breaking process or procedure, investment in communities and other charitable undertakings, or simply stories of interest to our members and partners, please submit them to us for consideration. We want to hear and share the stories of our community with our community and others. I look forward to seeing many of you at our Annual General Meeting in Blue Mountain, as well as our '70s event the night prior. Let’s build on the momentum of the 2018 Conference and make it a memorable ECAO event!
