b'FROM OUR PRESIDENTWCA Membership Survey ResultsInside this issue of Build Manitoba, you will see some factoids from our recent membership survey. WCA has attempted to formally survey members at least every three yearssomething we should probably do more often. However, we are also very cognizant of the multitude of surveys our members receive on a weekly basis and we know survey fatigue can be a factor in response rates.Member engagement is incredibly important to us. The key to engagement is to provide a range of services that are of value to member companies and then to continue to adjust and tweak those services as needs change. Throughout the month of June, we encouraged members to respond to our survey and the response rate was quite good. Here are somesignificant findings: A high percentage of responses were from our trade contractorsthe group that makes up the largest percentage of our membership. Generally, these are smaller companies. Our BuildWorks Canada platform continues to be the most valuable service we offer according to 88 per cent ofrespondents. In 2014, 87 per cent of respondents chose BuildWorks, as did 89 per cent in 2010.We asked our members about the quality of our news services and respondents indicated that WCA is very effective at sourcing project info. This result is similar to 2014 but lower than 2010. The lower percentage might be related to the reduced number of public tenders available in Manitoba over the past two years.WCA remains the primary source for bid opportunities (81 per cent) but we can see some erosion to services such as MERXwhich require contractors to subscribe and buy the bid documents. In regard to company attendance at WCA events, well over half of the responses indicated attendance at one or more association events even though some fill quickly. Events show good value and members indicated that they recommend our events to friends and colleagues. Our education program is of primary importance to 46 per cent of respondents, a figure consistent with results in 2014 and2010. Forty per cent of members surveyed reported they have NOT attended a course at WCA in the last 12 months, with time being the main factor for not attending. Prompt payment ranks highest among advocacy issues, a topic we expect action on this year.WCA scored 8 out of 10 onthe effectiveness of our advocacy efforts. Regarding the economy, 53 per cent of members surveyed expect to be busier and 40 per cent to remain as busy during the current and coming year. That is reassuring news I would say. Finally, we asked how likely members are to recommend WCA membership to a colleague in the industry and the responsewas 87 per cent likely or very likely. This type of question is called a Net Promoter Score and it is a powerful survey question with a strong positive response. All this data will be reviewed in the context of our strategic plan and our system of key performance indicators which is monitored regularly by our tireless Board of Directors. I want to thank members for participating in this survey and for your continued support. To the winners of the survey draw prizethe NFL tickets in WinnipegI apologize for a lousy football game.
