I am looking forward to my second year as ECAO President, with a bit of excitement and trepidation. Trepidation because we never know what awaits us in 2019 from our new Provincial Government and introduction of legislation that might significantly affect our contractor members. Likewise, I am excitedly looking forward to addressing these challenges as your President along with the ECAO Board. By now most of you will know that Provincial Bargaining was completed in February. We now have a Collective Agreement from 2019-2022. While there were not many changes to the Provincial Agreement, many Local Agreements made significant progress in addressing language changes, to the benefit of Members. I would like to encourage all the Local ECAs to either hold a local ECA meeting or provide a detailed communication to all their members to review the Local Agreements and the impacts the changes will have on their businesses. Review of the Local Agreement also provides a great opportunity for members to be engaged and participate at these meetings. The Bargaining process is a time- consuming endeavour and it involves taking time away from our businesses to negotiate in favour of the larger ECAO contractor community. I would like to extend my personal thanks to all those who dedicated their time and commitment during this recent round of negotiations. I believe we have learned much about how to improve the process for the future. One of my objectives for this year is to enhance our member engagement and participation at all levels; across the ECAO committees, with our Local ECAs, with our Affiliate Partners and Industry Partners. The ECAO Annual Conference and Annual General Meeting are both great events to make this engagement happen. • This year’s Annual Conference will be held in Nashville and the lineup of activities are unique and well worth the investment. Be sure to register soon as accommodations are limited since this is a premier location and venue. • Our Annual General Meeting is in October at Niagara Falls, and the evening prior to the AGM will be a themed evening of Gatsby. More details and registration information is to follow shortly. • ECAO 2018 Annual Report in hard copy to be out in March.
