Since our humble beginning as the General Builders Society in 1867, TCA has been committed to promoting and upholding the highest standards of industry professionalism and has grown to become the uniting voice of Toronto’s ICI industry. The UCAO was formed in 1968 by a small group of contractors and was incorporated in 1980 for the purpose of negotiating collective bargaining agreements with the Laborers International Union of North America Ontario Provincial District Council and the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 793 for employees in the power utilities sector of the construction industry in Ontario. The UCAO has 26 contractor members and 33 associate members. The contractor members install electrical, telephone and cable TV services throughout Ontario. The UCAO has developed, together with the Labourers Union and the Operating Engineers Union, utility construction employee safety training and orientation programs which are offered year- round at the unions’ training facilities in Ontario.
