b'THE BEST DECISION I EVER MADE?I JOINED THE BOILERMAKERS.I spent twelve years working in construction as a labourer, going from job to job and getting lucky to find one at $14 per hour. After getting laid off and becoming a father,I knew I wanted to give my daughter a better life.I decided to sign up for welding training, while earning my grade 12 diplomaat the same time. It was the best decision I ever made. I recently finished my paid apprenticeship at Victoria Shipyard. Now Im a Red Seal-qualified, A-level welderand a proud member of the Boilermakers union.I earn much more than I ever thought I would. I get health benefits that cover me and my family. Ill get a good pension when I retire. And I work with a great bunch of men and women who share what theyve learned with me.I really feel Im part of the team.They tell me Canada is facing a shortage of skilled trades workers. That means there are a lot of opportunities out there, across the country. I would recommend to anybody that they talk with the Boilermakers. Theyll show you the way. You can become a welder like me, or a rigger, a fitter, a metal fabricatortheres something for everyone, if youre willing to work hard and learn.
