b'PRESIDENTS MESSAGEANOTHER OF MY FAVOURITE HAZEL STORIES HAPPENED AT HER 98TH BIRTHDAY PARTY, WHICH WAS HOSTED BY ONE OF HER KIDS. IT TURNS OUT HAZEL HAD CLIMBED A 25-FOOT ROCK WALL A DAY EARLIER, WHICH HAD SLIPPED HER MIND WHEN I ASKED IF SHE HAD BEEN UP TO ANYTHING EXCITING.hockey stayed with her until the day she died. My guess is that most of you knew that after leaving hockey, Hazel joined an American engineering/construction company in Montreal and later in Toronto. What you likely didnt know, however, is that M. W. Kellogg did some of the early engineering on the top-secret Manhattan Project during Hazels tenure. Predictably, Kelloggs involvement in building the worlds first atomic bomb was a closely guarded secret. Hazel remembered lots of high security signs at the NYC head office but didnt find out about Kelloggs role in building the worlds first atomic bomb until after the war. Still, like all stories connected to Hurricane Hazel, drama abounds.Another of my favourite Hazel stories happened at herSWEET98th birthday party, which was hosted by one of her kids. It turns out Hazel had climbed a 25-foot rock wall a day earlier, which had slipped her mind when I asked if she had been up to anything exciting. How many 98-year-olds do you know who are willing and able to climb a STRUCTURAL WORKthree-story rock wall? No question. Hazel McCallion wasa force of nature!Sucro Ltd.s new 35M refinery in For the record, I am not worried that Hazel McCallion willHamilton, Ontario.be forgotten. On the contrary, the legacy of HurricaneBenson is proud to have been chosen as Hazel McCallion and her profound impact on the lives of constructors everywhere is legendary. Case in point, Feb.their structural steel fabricator partner.14th, formally known as Valentines Day, was renamedHazel McCallion Day across the province of Ontario inW2016.
