Roofmembranemanufacturers will have both opportunities and challengestobringtomarket effective products and applications that may reduce or eliminate the use of high-risk chemicals within theirproducts.Certificationof these new products will take time andsignificanttestingtomeet thestandardsinplaceforroof systems.Certainmanufacturers have systems that currently reduce oreliminatechemicalexposure that are not being considered at present because of cost or other factors. With these new require-ments in place to protect workers fromchemicalexposure,these systems may become more promi-nent in the marketplace.Exposure control is a necessary part of H&S in B.C. All RCABC contractor members, and the industry as a whole, arerequiredtocomplywithexpo-surecontrolrequirementsunderthe WCA. RCABC has taken the steps on behalf of industry to lead the work on thisimportantregulatorymatter.
