If Thorough is correct, roofers and the collective construction industry are a successful bunch. Over the past five years, the B.C. construction industry has seen its share of challenges. RCABC pres-ident Dan Henrotte wrote about personnel, supply chain, new regulations and municipal bureaucracy in the last edition of Roofing BC. All through those years, contractors, consultants, architects and engineers reported being busier than ever. We experienced this firsthand by the number of roofing lunch-and-learn presentations requested by designers, as they leverage the RCABC Roofing Standards to reduce risk and qualify for the RoofStar Guarantee program. I am happy to report that apprenticeship training numbers are up this year. Roofer and Architectural Sheet Metal classes sold out early with wait lists. With support from SkilledTradesBC and donations from the Guarantee program, we have been able to fund additional classes to meet the demand this year. The tradesperson shortage is not solved, but RCABC members are funding and supporting trades training to ensure they continue to have qualified, ticketed staff into the future. This spring, RCABC staff will once again travel across the province to hold stakeholder sessions about roofing standards, best practices, the RoofStar Guarantee and the new Vegetative Roofing Guarantee, a first-of-its-kind guarantee in Canada. These sessions bring together roofing contractors, roof consul-tants, building science engineering firms and building owners. Back in Langley, we are planning a second Green Roofing course to support our Vegetative Roof Guarantee and wil hold an Accepted Observer Course for new Observers. This course focuses on the Roofing Practices Manual, the go-to guide for roof installations to qualify for the RoofStar Guarantee.
