b'The Final RehabERAMOSA PITOrton, Ontario Located in Eramosa Township, in the County of Wellington, this 19.36-hectare property was awarded the OSSGA Progressive Rehabilitation Award in 2021. CBM Aggregates (a division of St Marys Cement Inc. Canada) has leased and operated the site from Cox Farms Ltd. since 2006, progressively rehabilitating the land back to agriculture and other end uses since that time. In 2008, a 2.5-hectare wetland was created through contouring and the placement of 30,000 cubic metres of overburden material. The wetland is utilized by a variety of wildlife, including deer, turkey, muskrats and wildfowl. In 2009, a seven-hectare meadow area was created through sloping and seeding, which is now colonized by native wildflowers.More recently, in 2021, CBM Aggregates rehabilitated a 9.6-hectare area using the sites remaining topsoil. Approximately 50,000 cubic metres of material was moved to create an agricultural base composed of approximately 35 centimetres of overburden and 15 centimetres of topsoil. Once contouring was completed, the site was tilled with a cultivator and planted with a cover crop of oats with an underplanting of a grass legume mixture. The site was surrendered in September 2021 with rotational row crop agriculture continuing in the recently rehabilitated section.
