b'The Final RehabCBM AGGREGATES SUGARBUSH PITIn 2014, OSSGA awarded CBM Aggregates, a division of St Marys Cement Inc. (Canada), with an Outstanding Achievement in Property Rehabilition Award for work done at their Sugarbush Pit in the Township of West Nissouri. The Outstanding Achievement in Property Rehabiltiation Award, which is judged by outside experts, recognizes achievements in rehabilitation over and above what is required by provincial legislation. In 1983, CBM acquired the lease to the 9.7-hectare Sugarbush property. The material extracted from the Sugarbush Pit was used to supplement St Marys ready mix operations. The objective of the rehabilitation project was to naturalize the property with a mix of upland and wetland areas. To accomplish this, CBM seeded the slopes, and in 2008, together with the Upper Thames River Conservation Authority and local school groups, planted over 2,000 woody and 5,000 aquatic plants. The Sugarbush Pit was rehabilitated to a natural state, with aquatic vegetation taking hold within the wetland areas, as well as colonization by native vegetation. Upland woody shrubs included many common species such as Ninebark, Nannyberry, and Dogwood. The Sugarbush wetland and surrounding area is used by a variety of wildlife species including Osprey, White-tailed Deer, Mallards, and Great Blue Herons. The rehabilitation also provides good nesting opportunities for several turtle species. The OSSGA Industry Recognition Awards Program recognizes the achievements of OSSGAs membership in Community Relations, Rehabilitation, Property Enhancement and more.
