Based in Dartmouth, N.S., Cherubinihastwofactoriesthatfabricate bridgeconstructionsteelinBurnsideand Shearwater, N.S.CherubinisuppliedthesteelfortheU.S. approachestothebridge.Similartothe Canadian side, the company supplied girders toconnectthemainspanofthebridgeto the ground. The girders are up to 43 metres inlengthandeachrequiredfabricationofa horizontalcurveononeend,saysAllister Mood, project manager with Cherubini Bridges andStructures.Ourcompanyalsosupplied braces for the girders and diaphragms to stiffen loads at the piers.The project was reasonably straight forward; thefabricationwasrelativelysimple,and coatings are a typical three-coat system that we work, with every day. Perhaps if we were forced topicksomethingasthemostchallenging portionofthework,wemightsaythatthe logistics required a high level of effort to ensure the deliveries of the girders went smoothly and without delay, says Mood.
