A CONSISTENT THEME AT THIS YEAR’S BUILDINGS SHOW WAS that it’s time for Canadian construction professionals to pay closer attention to technological advancements that are refashioning the way things are done. This was evident on the floors of the different trade shows making up the annual event, which took place at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre from November 28 to 30. There was Construct Canada, HomeBuilder & Renovator Expo, PM Expo, and World of Concrete Pavilion. This year, STONEX Canada, with exhibitors representing the stone, terrazzo, ceramic and tile industries, replaced IIDEX, Canada’s National Design and Architecture Exposition, which in turn is now part of the Interior Design Show (IDS) as IDSContract. BY SARAH B. HOOD Of most interest to TCA members was Construct Canada, which shared the South Exhibit Hall with the PM Expo. Among this year’s more intriguing show-floor features were a virtual-reality demonstration by Rogers; the MLSE Raptors Gondola Box Giveaway; and race2reduce, a partnership between BOMA Toronto and Toronto Hydro that encourages the reduction of energy consumption. Mark Casaletto, president and CEO of show sponsor ConstructConnect Canada, is a long-time veteran at the event, having attended most shows over the past 20 years.
