ORN THE ONLY SOURCE FOR PROFESSIONAL ICI ROOFING CONTRACTORS IN ONTARIO ONTARIO ROOFING NEWS – WINTER 2018/19 15 framing component (aka furring channel) fastened to the super- structure through the two-ply roof. Clip angles were then used to achieve height separation and support for the pre-curved track and stud assemblies to which the Kalzip standing seam metal roof clips were attached. Bothwell Accurate also worked with Soprema to develop a war- ranty-approved method to seal the required hat-channel fastener penetrations. Roxul mineral wool insulation was used to cover the two-ply modified bit roof, and the high emissivity value of the Kalzip standing seam worked to reduce the overall solar gain of the building’s roof. “This inverted approach and the high emissivity value guarantees the two-ply sys- tem never experiences thermal or UV degradation,” says McGrath. Collective Expertise Ultimately, the success of the project came down to the collaboration of all the partners and their collective expertise. Not only did RTC and Kalzip coordinate their 3D fabrication models to assure both their systems would fit together, but the firms worked in unison to maintain a smooth schedule. “Kalzip fabricated the pre-curved roof panels while BA installed the pre-curved framing,” recalls McGrath. “The first shipment of RTC light-gauge framing arrived on site at a predetermined pace that allowed BA to continuously install framing without any stops. Immediately following framing completion, the pre-curved metal roof panels arrived, and proceeded continuously according to the contract schedule.” It also helped a lot, continues McGrath, that the entire team was in communication throughout the project to address any site issues as well as requests coming from the transit authority. “It couldn’t have been done without this team,” he stresses. “The experienced members of this combined team leveraged technology, maintained close communication, and hit every delivery date in each of their contracts.” Receiving CRCA’s Roofing Canada Award was a pleasant surprise for Bothwell Accurate, whose cladding division is a rela- tively new part of the established Photos courtesy of the TTC roofing company. “It was good to get our name out there and show we’re not only a competent roof- ing company, but that we can do some unique cladding projects,” says McGrath. “It’s a nice one to put on the wall.” The Roofing Canada Award recognizes CRCA members for their outstanding workmanship, pursuit of innovation, community work and industry service. All jobs completed within the last two years of entry deadline are eligible, and the award is determined by a group of roofing industry peers.
